Job Summary
AECOM‘s Major Pursuits Team (MPT) manages the company`s largest and most
strategic tender submissions across both established and emerging markets.
We are recruiting for an experienced bid writer to join the team on a fixed-
term basis to cover a period of maternity leave. With experience of producing
technically accurate- well written- high scoring- compelling and excellently
presented expressions of interest and tender submissions- the bid writer will
share our enthusiasm and determination to be part of a winning team. Our bid
writers are required to have significant experience of delivering persuasive-
high quality content using industry standard approaches- including NOSE- BASE
IFBP etc.
The writer will be involved through the full work winning lifecycle. I
addition to the writing phase they will also work with colleagues to
understand the opportunity- define the win strategy- plan response content and
contribute to the libraries which the team maintains. In doing so- they will
work collaboratively with other MPT members- technical teams in our end
markets and leadership.
The bid writer will work in a dynamic and deadline driven team environment to
contribute to major bids from pre qualification to proposal stages. They will
be responsible for translating complex technical approaches and ideas into
clear- well-written and high quality responses.
Working as part of a collaborative team which provides development
opportunities for all- we encourage the transfer of skills within the team.
Our writers therefore understand and- where appropriate- support bid managers
in their roles and vice versa.
Role Responsibilities:
Attend and participate in bid strategy meetings and other workshops to fully understand the opportunity- the client`s requirements / expectations and AECOM`s value proposition
Undertake research and review the tender documents to build understanding and gather proposal information
Work with bid managers to prepare bid materials and input to programming
Lead and facilitate content planning sessions and bid reviews attended by large groups of staff – listening- challenging and distilling the story
Proactively develop and manage relationships with a network of Subject Matter Experts – interviewing them to extract a complete story where appropriate
Take authoring responsibility for large sections of the proposal- using clear and persuasive writing techniques to drive content to consistent and professional standards in line with client`s requirements
Read- review- edit and finalise proposal responses from other contributors – where necessary identifying and re-working material and agreeing the response structure with the bid manager
Work with graphic design teams to define how submissions will be laid out- helping to create preliminary templates and identifying where images and visualisation will help convey messages
Seek out strong written content for inclusion in- and provide editing and maintenance support to- a library of pre-written proposal content
Identify lessons to be learned and recommend/implement improvements
Act responsibly through adherence to and improvement of AECOM policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements
A proven writing background (ideally in a related industry)
Experience of working in a major bids environment – including demonstrating an understanding of bid management and quality systems
Outstanding authoring skills and the ability to turn |raw information| into superbly articulated content
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in engineering/administration (preferred) or equivalent with
a professional writing background.
